This is a fantastic piece of history. It’s an authentic square nail carrier that a carpenter would have used in the 1800’s. Each cubby has a square nail fastened to the outside to keep the different sizes organized. As is typical of the 1800s carpenters tools, it was made out of necessity. They needed a way to keep common nails separate and handy, so they made a box with nails for the labels. Which makes it unique. It has all of its original patina from normal construction wear over the years. What’s really cool about it is the bottom plate is made of tin with “hand punched” holes in it to allow water to drain through. They didn’t want the nails to get rusty! If your looking for authentic primitive decor, then this box had your name on it. Its beautiful. It’s old. It’s a one-of-a-kind piece that deserves a spot in your home.
