This is a one of a kind custom made Japanese style bench. Made from either solid white oak (pictured), black walnut, or cherry. This bench is made to order, unless you catch us at the right time... we may just have one on hand.
The only fasteners used are vintage reclaimed square nails. But they are not used inside any of the wood. They are used as pin fasteners on the outside of the wood to hold the wooden pegs in place. It’s assembled using old wood joinery techniques to create a strong and stable bench. I preserved as much of the old wood character as possible.
This bench has a really cool feel to it and sits very well. It’s coated with 4 layers of spar-urethane for a durable finish so it could be used outside or inside. White oak is the best choice of these wood for outdoor use because of its natural weather durability.
I could have made this bench simpler... but I like working with vintage hand tools and I appreciate good joinery. So it takes time. But it’s so worth it. I truly love making them with my hands, and hopefully you will enjoy it for years to come... and then pass it on to your next of kin.
